At the Food & Farming Day, this zone is best described as a huge gallery exhibiting amazing pictures, craft models and food all made by schoolchildren before the day and to a certain theme. Farmer Luke shows us a wonderful selection of some of the previous entries that were on show.
Excitingly the winners are chosen by a celebrity judge who visits the show. Last year our celebrity judge was JB Gill, who was a singer in the boyband JLS and is now a farmer – so he knows a thing or two about farming (and sings a lot better than Farmer Luke).
JB also shares a lovely video on why he thinks the Food Farming Day is so important.
In this section, there is also a competition to enter and win funding for schools to attend the 2021 event and to win some book tokens.
1st prize – £150 coach contribution towards travel to the 2021 event
2nd prize – £100 contribution for a class of 30 to attend 2021 event
3rd prize – £50 book voucher for the school
Farming isn’t just about driving the tractors and moving sheep: it’s the technology and engineering that design new combine harvesters, the scientists creating new veterinary medications, and the chefs that know the value of seasonal produce. Showing children these future options is equally as important as making sure that they have an understanding of how their food is produced.JB Gill
